Fans of high-art new wave gods Devo have waited roughly twenty years for word of new material. Their last release, 1990’s Smooth Noodle Maps, seemed to be dead on arrival; panned by critics and ignored by the masses, it did little to resuscitate Devo’s career. But twenty years in the digital age can do a band good. Having tracks featured on both Rock Band and Rock Band 2, not to mention their music being highlighted on a multitude of high-profile commercials, Devo has seeped back into the public consciousness. Tentatively titles Fresh, Devo’s ninth studio album is slated for release in Spring 2010 through Warner Brothers. Featuring titles such as “Watch Us Work It” and “Don’t Shoot (I’m a Man),” both of which already have respective music videos, rumor has it that Devo has about seventeen new songs to work with.
Anything DEVO does is genius.
