For the follow-up to Dan "Destroyer" Bejar's 2008 album, Trouble In Dreams, the arch, adventurous art-pop singer/songwriter has come up with a batch of tunes named after a book he freely admits he has not read (by Italian author Curzio Malaparte). To further obfuscate the subject of Kaputt's inspirations, Bejar offered up a half-joking list of disparate reference points including everything from "'90s Gil Evans" (Evans died in the '80s) to "the back-up vocals of certain Roy Ayers and Long John Baldry tours." In other words, it's pretty much up to the listeners to create their own context for Kaputt.
