Fugazi bassist Joe Lally was responsible for releasing Dead Meadow’s six-song debut on his own Tolotta Records in 2000. The band was commissioned to do a Peel Session shortly afterwards, and cemented their relationship with the classic DC punk band by committing it to tape in Fugazi’s practice space. These Dead Meadow tracks were often thought to be the first Peel Session captured outside the BBC’s own studios, although a Breeders session recorded in Boston by Steve Albini in 1990 has nixed that claim. Dead Meadow's Peel Session has been heavily bootleged since its initial broadcast, but this official release makes for a great introduction to the kind of sludgy psychedelia they were peddling at the turn of the century.
love the 'meadow, especially jason simon's mix of psychedelic guitar noodling and noisy accents.
