David Byrne has always seemed to embrace his collaborative spirit. His latest album with legendary producer Brian Eno ranks among his best post-Talking Heads output (not to mention 1981’s My Life in the Bush of Ghosts), he has scored a ballet for Twyla Tharp titled The Catherine Wheel, and has even produced tracks for new-wave trailblazers The B-52’s. So it should come as no surprise that Byrne’s latest, Here Lies Love, is not only a joint effort with Fatboy Slim (aka Norman Cook), but features a different vocalist on every track. From Santigold to Tori Amos, Roisin Murphy to Sharon Jones (of Dap Kings fame), Byrne and Slim seem to have quite the magic hat from which to pull such diverse and immense talent from. And if that’s not enough to pique interest, Here Lies Love is also a concept album that chronicles the life of Imelda Marcos, the widow of Ferdinand Marcos, former Philippines dictator.
