Banner's fifth album was originally slated for a New Year's Day 2008 release but was moved to the more appropriate mid-summer slot. Known for sticky-pop schlock ("Play") as well as shameless public intimacy ("Cadillacs on 22s"), the rapper and producer deserves to be heard in the hazy heat. For this album, Banner follows his chosen template of twenty or so tracks, some of which are self-produced and the rest being outsourced (Akon, Cool & Dre, Nitti). As such, the album is sure to have its share of pop detris -- lead single "Speaker" (a.k.a. "9mm" and the just-in-time-for-summer nonsense of "Get Like Me" -- offset by more poignant numbers.
