You know how record labels always warn against sending "unsolicited demos?" Kentucky troubadour Daniel Martin Moore is living proof that you shouldn't always heed them, because that's how he got signed to Sub Pop. His first album for the label was produced by My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James, and the follow-up, In the Cool of the Day, takes a spiritual turn. It finds Moore delivering a batch of gospel hymns and traditional spiritual tunes (and a few he penned himself) in a folk-flavored, acoustic-based format.
