First of all, CunninLynguists is a terrible name for a hip-hop group, or any group for that matter. Despite this fact, the Kentucky trio (consisting of emcees Deacon the Villain, Natti, and producer Kno) have proven to outshine their surroundings, and prove that modern rap isn't all about selling ring tones. The follow-up to 2007's excellent Dirty Acres is a concept album of sorts. The “strange journey” in question, commences with the threesome stumbling upon an abandoned van, toking up, and taking it for a spin. Throughout Strange Journey - Volume One, the same vehicle is periodically mentioned (including the funny “White Guy Mind Tricks” where the group has a run-in with the fuzz). A motif of being on the road is ever present. Kno's production tends towards being MOR, here Kno adds a distinctive flavor to the production tip with crisp, complete beats and standout samples The first Strange Journey installment also includes dope guest spots from PackFM& Club Dub, Killer Mike, Khujo of Goodie Mob, Skinny DeVille, Fish Scales of Nappy Roots, Slug of Atmosphere, Mac Lethal, Tonedeff, Substantial, Looptroop Rockers Hilltop Hoods, and former CunninLynguists member Mr. SOS.
how is that a terrible name?
