Crystal Antlers looked to obtain something new and old when recording their proper follow-up to 2009's critically acclaimed Tentacles. In terms of branching out, the punk/noise rockers crossed the border to a small Mexican town to write much of the music of Two-Way Mirror. The album's core came together through experimentation with styles such as punk, 1970s folk, grunge, and surf rock. They then returned home to Long Beach, Calif., where they recorded the album with the help of producer Isaiah "Ikey" Owens. He previously worked with the band on their break-out first release, the Crystal Antlers EP.
