Though he has since achieved greater fame and success as a member of Slaughterhouse alongside Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz and Royce da 5'9", Crooked I is an old-school hip-hop veteran who has paid his dues for more than a decade. His solo debut, Hood Star, which was hidden away in the vaults for years, is a collection of a material recorded when the Long Beach rap veteran was signed to Death Row Records between 1999 and 2002. His tenure at the label coincided with most of founder Suge Knight's incarceration, and the album guest list is something of a blast from the past; Ray J, Too Short, Juvenile, Sisqo, Kurupt and Eastwood, among others, accompany on the verses. Nearly a decade after these vocals were laid to wax, it's good to have them finally see the light of day.
