Review

Kanye West introduced the world to Lupe Fiasco, helped break John Legend and saved Common’s career. It seems like just about the only musician impervious to Kanye’s Midas touch is Consequence, the rapper whose long delayed 2007 debut Don’t Quit Your Day Job! gathered dust on shelves, attracting the inevitable “do quit your day job” jokes. Consequence has been looking for his big break since the mid-’90s, when he was prominently featured on A Tribe Called Quest’s most reviled album, Beats, Rhymes and Life, with his older cousin Q-Tip. Neither Q-Tip or Kanye West seem to have learned their past failures, though, because both of them have lent a hand on this second album from the little-loved rapper often likened to a lightweight Nas.
