Review

New York City–based/Michigan-born duo City Center’s first full-length (and second over all) for the esteemed and still-chugging-strong K label has been nearly three years in the making. Born out of  devotional tinkering and the creative intimacy of constant collaboration, Redeemer represents a culmination of sorts for the combo. Though the same lo-fi grandeur, warped digital playfulness, and nostalgia-laced psychedelia of pervious efforts remain, the emergence of a focused, fully-formed ensemble (even if it is only two guys--Fred Thomas and Ryan Howard) is clearly beginning to take shape as well.
