If Cannibal Corpse's Kill (2006) shocked the cynics into believing that the band was more than a symbol of what was wrong with brutal death metal, Evisceration Plague proves that it was no fluke. CC's trademark over-the-top lyrical acumen is well in place on their eleventh album, if song titles like "Evidence in the Furnace" and "Skewered From Ear to Eye" are any indication. This time around bassist/main songwriter Alex Webster wrote out sheet music for his bandmates to chomp on, meaning that come recording time, the tunes were polished as freshly-liberated viscera. Erik Rutan (Morbid Angel/Hate Eternal) is again in the production helm, ratcheting up the dual brutality/heavyosity factor significantly. Wear protection when you listen to this one.
