Old-school quirk-rockers Cake, best known for their 1996 hit "The Distance," haven't been heard from for a while, but their first album in nearly seven years, Showroom of Compassion, doesn't follow a period of inactivity. The West coast band spent much of the gap between releases building their own solar-powered studio, which is where they recorded Showroom. Extending their DIY approach even further, they also started their own label, Upbeat Records, to release the album.
