This EP is the official version of a six-song CD-R that Blitzen Trapper sold at its shows for a year prior to its release, with the addition of a seventh song, the title track "Black River Killer," which appeared on 2008's Furr. Furr was the band's Sub Pop debut, and the songs on Black River Killer date to those sessions but didn't make the final cut for the album. These songs have been performed live regularly and available at merchandise tables, but now everyone will have access to a fuller account of Blitzen Trapper's work during its transition to working with a label.
