The influential Pixies frontman has significantly heightened his profile in alternative music circles since the reunion of the seminal band in 2004. Maybe that’s why for his 18th solo release, he’s chosen to use his Pixies moniker Black Francis instead of the name he used when he first went solo, Frank Black. Whatever the case, this CD was put together to coincide with a film by Judy Jacobs, who has also done visuals for the Pixies. It includes a cover of the Flying Burrito Brothers’ song “Wheels” and atmospheric songs that Francis claimed on his Web site were penned “by candlelight in the studio.”
