Review

After the intensive recording of their 2007 LP, The Broken String (for which they recorded an EP a month throughout 2006, and then chose the best tracks), Bishop Allen has taken a more traditional route for Grrr... It is a 13 track-long song cycle in which all the songs rely on one another, which is difficult to do with 12 EP's worth of songs. Those who know of the band's filmic tendencies (perhaps developed through their work with Andrew Bujalski) will approve of the more narrative framework of this record. And just as a kicker, it was mixed by Bryce Goggin, whose pedigree includes Pavement, Apples in Stereo, and Sebadoh.
