Odessa Promotional Spot
Before they went disco, but after their Beatlesque pop phase, the Brothers Gibb caught the Big Ambition bug. And like most every other band of the '60s, they sought to Make a Statement along the lines of the Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band." As these things go, 1969's "Odessa," which Reprise Records is reissuing, isn't half bad. It includes the hit "First of May" as well as fan favorite "Melody Fair," a British hit for Lulu, who was married to the late Maurice Gibb (yipes…maybe I know too much about these guys). The reissue includes both the stereo and mono mixes of the original, plus the requisite disc of alternate mixes, unreleased songs, demos and radio promo spots. Now all Bee Gees fans need to make their life complete is an issue of the legendary unreleased 1973 effort "A Kick in the Head Is Worth Eight in the Pants." Any takers?
