Review

The wait between Battles' proper album was not a particularly easy one. Not only it did it take about four years for the band to follow-up Mirrored, but the New York-based act also lost Tyondai Braxton in the process. His departure in late 2010 was, at least, on good terms as he just wanted to focus on his solo career. Several months later, Battles would announce their sophomore full-length, Gloss Drop, an album that features the band veering off into different, more accessible territory. The new direction was first heard on lead single "Ice Cream," which includes guest Matias Aguayo on vocals. He's not the only guest on here, either, as Gary Numan, Yamantaka Eye, and Kazu Makino all appear on Gloss Drop.
