After watching Panda Bear get all of the solo spotlight, Animal Collective's Avey Tare has ventured out on his own to release Down There, the first time he's gone stag on a record. Recorded by sometimes-AnCo bandmate Josh "Deakin" Dibb, Down There continues in the same experimental style that's made Animal Collective such a beloved and polarizing band in the independent music scene. As Tare is the primary songwriter in Animal Collective, it's no surprise that the album "carries you through a murky world of sound, an alien death world of soul grooves that is both honest and otherworldly," according to the label, Paw Tracks. In theory, the record will get a better reception than Pullhair Rubeye, the 2007 album he recorded with wife Kria Brekken, which went through an indie-rock "controversy" when decided to mix all of the songs backward. A new David Lynch movie hasn't come out in a while, so it's unlikely he's influenced Tare to do anything too wacky on Down There.
