There was life for the late Arthur Lee after Love, although his solo efforts never got the attention of his beloved psychedelic band. One reason for that is because in 1974, he signed to Robert Stigwood’s RSO label and released an ill-conceived album of funk and R&B tunes. But three years later, he put out a follow up simply titled “Arthur Lee,” which was much better, even though it went all but unnoticed. Friday Records is remedying that situation by reissuing the album, which is notable for a few tunes that sound like throwbacks to the post-“Forever Changes” Love (“I Do Wonder,” “Just Is”) and an unexpected cover of Jimmy Cliff’s “Many Rivers to Cross.” If you liked the offhand vibe of Love’s “Four Sail,” you’ll probably like this.
