Apostle of Hustle is a less bombastic, showy band than its bigger cousin, mega-collective Broken Social Scene, but that certainly doesn't mean that Broken Social Scene guitarist and Apostle of Hustle fronman Andrew Whiteman puts any less effort into his baby. Speaking of Eats Darkness, the third Apostle of Hustle record, Whiteman said, “Eats Darkness is a serial poem about some struggles people go through. Battles, from the macro to the micro. Songs about tactics and attitudes needed in 'life during wartime'. Each track is like tapas at the banquet of conflict. A small contribution to the articulation of a fucked and beautiful world.”
Anyone who's ever seen Whiteman play live has probably come away with the impression that the man's a little odd, but when's the last time someone normal had such rich, interesting intent?
