The career of Andrew W.K. has taken many unpredictable turns, considering the head-banging, pop metal of 2001's I Get Wet that was AWK's first introduction to the world. The follow-up would be similar in tone and spirit, but Andrew W.K's energetic, eternally optimistic personality opened the door for opportunities in television and even work as a motivational speaker. In recent years, he has continued to make music, but only with limited availability in the States, including the vinyl only release of the more pop leaning Close Calls With Brick Walls and The Japan Covers, an album of J-pop songs with Andrew W.K. giving his own renditions. For those familiar with AWK's adventurous, love-for-life attitude, it's not really that surprising that he would record a heavily improvisational "new-age instrumental solo piano concept album," which is exactly what 55 Cadillac is. It is exactly the kind of leftfield move that is true to his joyous philosophy and multi-instrumental background and may alieante those looking for more beer commerical anthems. The album also promises to make listeners feel like they're in the car with him and that he's playing piano just for them, so says Andrew.
