"For people [from] thirty years ago to use our process to make music doesn't make sense to me." ~ ?uestlove, Lay It Down EPK
There really was no other way for this record to go. An Al Green record under the direction of the Roots' ?uestlove and keyboardist James Poyser had to respect the tradition of Green's artistry. So, unlike the numerous attempts to update an artist, Lay It Down simply celebrates good ol' yesterday today. Disciples of soul music also joining these festivities include Anthony Hamilton, John Legend, Corinne Bailey Rae, and those ubiquitous Dap-Kings.
