The A.A. in A.A. Bondy's name might as well stand for "All-American." The guy stands in a long line of tradionalist American singer-songwriters. Hell, he even named his debut album American Hearts. The record was first released last year on the small label Superphonic, and is now getting re-released by Fat Possum, home to plenty of other musicians who trade in American roots music. There are no extras on this re-release. How are Bondy's songwriting chops? Well, he's recently been opening for the Weakerthans, the band fronted by John K. Sampson, one of the best songwriters around. So if Bondy is good enough to catch Sampson's ear, then he must be quite good.
