A Hawk and a Hacksaw Delivrance

Deliverance is the fifth release from Neutral Milk Hotel alum Jeremy Barnes and multi-instrumentalist Heather Trost. On 2007's A Hawk and a Hacksaw and the Hun Hangar Ensemble, the duo left behind the indie pop approach that had informed their explorations of Eastern European folk music both on their previous records and as backing musicians in Beirut, and focused on wholly traditional instrumental pieces. Deliverance finds them swinging back toward their earlier sound, but adds a more experimental edge to their Balkan roots.
