It has been a tumultuous few yours for the artists formerly known as Aly & AJ, Formerly trailing only Miley Cyrus and The Jonas Brothers as Disney music favorites, the duo now known as 78violet has left Hollywood Records, acquired multiple stalkers, drawn controversy over their views on evolution, and have had their third album repeatedly delayed, 78violet is a self-titled album for the duo’s new title, the first independent from the Disney Empire that helped build them. The band speculated in February 2010 that the album will never be released, but the band continues to write new material, If ever released, 78violet will follow up Aly & AJ’s 2007’s Insomniatic, which despite the platinum single “Potential Breakup Song,” strong chart showings and some positive coverage in the mainstream pressed, failed to meet the sales of the duo’s 2005 debut Into The Rush.
