Back in 2009, 50 Cent told MTV that he'd be releasing his new album, then called Black Magic, one month after Eminem dropped Recovery, which ended up coming out in June 2010. But a month after that, 50 decided that Black Magic was too dance-friendly and ended up shelving the entire album together, shifting focus to new material and a new title: The Return of the Heartless Monster, which he announced via Twitter. A more traditional hip-hop album than the planned Eurodance of Black Magic,The Return of the Heartless Monster features collaborations with producers like Bangladesh and Swizz Beatz and rappers like Lil' Boosie, among others. Mr. Beatz described the album as "Triumphant. That's it," ideally a return to form for the maligned 50, who hasn't garnered much critical or commercial love in years (relative to him, of course--he's still outselling the Arcade Fire).
