I hope this album doesn't suck as bad as Dont Tread On Me. I've been a 311 fan since the Grassroots days, but have become increasingly embarassed to call myself a 311 fan. Whatever happened to "the day we turn to pop the show will stop"? I don't know if you've heard the steaming piles of BS called "Waiting" or "Frolic Room", but they don't even come close to the classic stuff like "Omaha Stylee" and "Visit". Nick Hexum needs to tone down the fruity lyrics and get back to doing what he was best at.

311 is the most uplifting band I know and cannot wait for uplifter its going to be phenomenal!

Yeah 311 probably aren't the Beatles, but I still like them a lot. Still that youtube clip of their song Hey You sounds pretty gay, I'm ready for disappointment.

Don't judge the album by one song, you won't know until you have heard everything. If you are prepared for disappointment, rest assured, you will be no matter what Uplifter is like.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion however I try to never bash anyone's choice in music. If we all liked the same thing life would be pretty damn boring.
I am just looking forward to hearing some new music from these guys.

"Hey You" is the most ridiculously sh*t song on the radio right now. It has the most unskilled, hacked-together, 7th grade lyrics, the dude's phrasing and timing is a joke and the sentiment of the song is just flat-out forced and fake.

i've read all the "drivel" above me. it's pretty clear you either love 311 or you can't stand them. one thing is clear despite your oponion on music style, the bands musicality is off the charts. musicianship is lost in todays pop relm. i'll i hear is synthed melodies paired with generic samples. 311 had a song "come original" which left it to new bands to brake the mold and do something different. everyone should experiment in moderation right. the last few albums 311 put out were less than stellar. the who, gratefull dead, beatles, pearl jam, led zeplin, etc.. did not all put out the best album every album. sounds change bands experiment. enough about that...
311 will go down in history as one of the best bands of all time. i believe dave mathews band, hot chilli peppers, and pearl jam also will be in the top for that era.
other bands who had the musicality also had tragedy and only produced a few albums.

most 311's songs rock. chad sexton is one of the best drummers of all time. he gives clinics to other drummers who give clinics. sa, chad weird duet, but it works, mahoney old school funk rock, and p-nut well p-nut slap that thing.

311>Sell outs like incubus and others

I've been a 311 fan since Music, but I have to say, I am not getting too excited for this release. "Don't Tread On Me" was terrible. I know people say they were trying a different sound and that 311 always changes their sound from album to album, but it was such a drastic and dramatic change. I was hoping for more songs in the vein of "How Do You Feel" and instead got an entire cd full of songs like "Last Straw." I can only listen to so many steel drum, Jamaican-inspired songs before I say, "enough."

"Hey You" does sound better than anything off DTOM, but I don't really like the chorus and the lyrics are kind of cheesey, but we shall see. I will wait to hear the whole album before I judge, but I will also refrain from getting too pumped up for it.

311 is past their prime. They have a few nice melodies here and there still though. "Hey You" is not that impressive. I'm not "hating," just trying to break this reality distortion field. Incubus has done a better job of staying fresh.

kinda catchy but nuthin special. The song has a good message but I agree with the cheesiness of the lyrics. 311 lyrics used to be so dope (pre from chaos) You can memorize the new songs after 2-3 listens. I still catch stuff I haven't noticed before on mucic thru soundsystem (especially transistor) even after hundreds of listens which is one reason I have always loved 311, because of the depth of their songs, but 'hey you' seems sort of 'pop rockish' but Im sure it will grow on me as most of their stuff does.Been a fan long time. Much respect to 311 and congrats on a history of awesome tunes Im looking forward to uplifter!!!!

LOOK, 311 has lasted the test of time for one reason and one reason only. THEIR GOOD. As the years go by bands go MIA. 311 have maintained through the years by making good solid quality ablums and songs. I am expecting Uplifter to be no different. Great beats, hooks, and vibes.

There was a time that 311 was the s--t. And unfortunately that time is in the past. This new song just isn't that cool, and DTOM really was their worst cd IMO. Music...Grassroots...311...Transistor...all of those couldnt be f-----d with. Soundsystem...eehh. From Chaos through the present is just awful. 1990's 311 was amazing. This decade...their music just fell off. They lost their edge. Their live shows are what keeps me around...but too much of their setlists are filled with weak songs from this decade. I have been a fan since Grassroots...that cd was amazing. I feel that a lot of the fans that get so mad about people not liking the new stuff weren't old enough to experience how cool their shows were during the grassroots days. Even during Transistor days when they were huge, their shows were out of this world. Not the same anymore...very dissapointed. And everyone needs to relax, if you don't like the new sound its no big deal. Too many 311 fans take it personal when someone doesn't like the band. Relax.

Just a F.Y.I. to you "old school" fans. I've been an fan since the BEGINNING. And, I am relaxed. As I have said before "Uncalm" is one of the best 311 songs of all time and 311 is merely evolving and growing into what THEY want to grow into. But, to each their own! I am a pretty solid 311 fan, but it is hard to deny that a lot of their best albums came in the 90's. You don't have to get your panties in a bunch just because people aren't nuts about their recent efforts. However, all the haters can piss off.

And let's just be optimistic about Uplifter.

Snoozer missed the point…. Sure Ive posted frequently, I am not denying that……..but its only been in effort to end negativity when it isnt needed. I never said for people to get a life for blogging so often, only to get a life for blogging so negatively. Prime example being Snoozers felt need to apologize for being biting or mean and that it wasnt the intention? I cant imagine anyone is denying the early stuff was gold and by all means to each their own. Been listening to Uplifter all day.
"Hey You" is BY FAR the worst song on the album.
Its all over the place, Its got a song for everyone really.
311's 90's music will always be their best, but the new music is alright and the live show is still great.
311 Concerts are always a GREAT time.

Man, I liked dont tread alot cause the lyrics were pretty raw but its a different 311. Hexum is off herione and his emotions arent stemming through his addiction clearence anymore its more about loving the life he created for himself. Its just a different breed of music now, which only credits the band more for being able to adjust to their mindset and where they are in life.

Uplifter has some really bad lyrics and some really poorly put together songs. It just dont work. but there were numerous songs i fking got the chills cause I know it was FCKIN 311.

I think it is hypocritical to give people a hard time about their opinions and cast them as "negative" and then turn around and blast them. Just because they have different opinions as you doesn't make them negative. I have been to 102 311 shows and surely can comment on their music. I love their music and positive attitudes but I have to say that their newer music doesn't give me the same feeling or energy their past efforts did. I mean there is a reason that all hardcore 311 fans keep their fingers crossed to hear "Unity, Hydroponic, Silver...etc" Those songs kick ass and if 311 can still bring the live emotion to perform those, than they can still write music like that. They have evolved and that is cool, if they are being true to themselves and the fans, that is all we can ask for. I will say though that DTOM (Waiting is one of the worst songs I have ever heard) and what I have heard of Uplifter has become more catchy (no surprise with Uplifter since Bob Rock did the same thing to Metallica). I will still have fun at the shows and 311Gurl I will certainly be in front jumping higher than you in the pit area at shows.

can't think of any band that i've instantly loved everything they've put out. also can't think of any band but 311 that has moved me the way they have. have not been in the same place they were in life to get the message right away but they will have my respect and love til the end of time because they do the thing that they do with such flavor and style like nobodies business. nothing but love for the boys and also the excitable ones. true fans have been fans since they first fell in love with them. my kid is a 2nd generation excitable one and i'm proud to continue to spread the positive vibes. rock on my brothers rock on!!!

Either way I'm listening to Uplifter and It's incredible, I loved DTOM, and every album preceeding, the idea of 311 is that every album they've written has something for someone, no matter if you like someone does, and thats all that matters. "We do it for ourselves, We do it for you, If you don't like it well, I hope you do".

Been listening to 311 for like 13 years and they are def one of the most talented (and original!) bands muscially. Uplifter's melodies/instrumentals are out of this world but I do agree that some of the lyrics are bubble gum (some always were-even old skool stuf). SA really needs rap more and Nick really needs to stop being so sappy. The best song on the album is Jackpot, with Something Out of Nothing and Its Alright tied for #2. 311 is a road band and they will always succeed in that way.....See yall on tour this summer ....JERSEY baby!!!!

I only pay for music at shows if I really like the band, the entire album and the performance, otherwise you cant have any more of my time or money, but never at a music store
So after hearing Dont Tread and then Uplifter I realized that I could never financially support this band because the new sh!t is sh!t, sterilized, souless, funkless, slow, boring and anything but rebellious or uplifitng, obviously created for the radio and adult contemporay stations they play in elevators and grocery stores
I really only heard of them when the greatest hit came out so I missed an era, but that era is over. This band is dead.
That doesnt mean you have to stop listening to them or pretend you werent a fan, you just have to snap to reality, and the reality is 311 IS JUST A BAND.
they are no more and no less a band than any of the thousands of sellouts before them, any of the groups that toned it down, sterilized it and went on endless tours to support their childrens drug habits on reality tv

Hello to all....I've been listening to 311 since '93, been to countless shows, and may have a bias opinion. 311 has rocked and always will rock your f**kin' pants off. I listened to Uplifter the other day, and I must say this is some outstanding work they have put out. Don't judge or guess how the album's going to be based on "Hey You", because it pales in comparison to most of the other songs on the album....and it too is a great song. 311 does, yet again, what they do best: catchy beats, great melodies, hooks, and chorus'. To all the haters, I'm sure 311 says "f**k the naysayers and keep goin Gotta do what they gotta do to get the people glowin'.....I guarantee you'll nod your head to these songs at a show just as much as "Applied Science."...Seascrest out.....

Listened to the album a second time kinda liked it, listened to it for the third time and i cant tell u how much i love it..give it time and it will grow on u and the name of the album is exactly the way i felt after listening to it...and hey , its better than 99% of the s*%t they put out now days

I love the new album. I think some people take themselves too seriously. Get down with a groove and let your head- the automatic affirmative- do the talking. If the lyrics sound cheesy, remember that nick is about to get married, when people are in love, they say and do cheesy things. I dig 311's political music, psychedelic/mystic music, and their love songs. Sure, uplifter is heavy at times, and "lovey" at times, but that's fine! Also, people, don't feed the trolls. (Verbal) "violence is for those that can't handle diction." So let the trolls and nay-sayers have their fun. Uplifter is definitely one of the best over all albums that I have ever heard. I've been a musician (jazz, rock, reggea, metal, funk, bluegrass) for my whole life. I think you need to have a musical edge to truly appreciate what this band is about. Also, both Nick and SA have said that they love this album, and that it was a labor of love to put it together. If you truly are a 311 fan, show some respect for the men who have given us this music for the past 20 years, and get down with what their puttin' out there. If it doesn't hit you at first, give it some time, try and see what went in to putting the album together. Peace and Unity, ya'll!

F--k all the naysayers and there negative bulls--t! I am fan of 311 since Music came out and I still am amased with the albums 311 produces. You may not like Uplifter because it is something different and doesn't have much hip-op style to it like the old school ways but you have to respect the music for where 311 is at with there lives. In my opinion Uplifter does not dissapoint and there is seriously is a good song for everyone to like on this album. This is probably there most complete album yet!

yes this albulm will most likely not be there best but they still deserve appreciation and respect

this new album had me on the edge of my seat befroe it came out most 311 fans can remember DTOM and i will be honest i respected the effort to change there sound but it just didnt work for me so when i heard a new album was on the way i was very nervous but after hey you hit the air waves i couldnt help but be excited at first i wasn't into it but after a couple times it jsut kicked ass i have listened to this new album 3 times now and the more i listen to it the more i love it 311 is the shiz still after 20 years that is AMAZING it is different yes but who stays the same after 20 years you know there is one last thing that i need to say and if your a real 311 fan you will agree 311 DID NOT SELL OUT IF YOU DISAGREE YOUR A SELL OUT 311 IS A BAND THEY DECIDE WHAT IS BEST FOR THE BAND A TRUE 311 FAN WILL ADAPT CHANGE IS GOOD AND SO IS THIS CD

Been listening to the album, and I watched the DVD. Definately not their best work, but not their worst. I agree that the early stuff is hard to knock (Music, Grassroots, and me, personally Transistor. More recently I though Evolover was enormously underrated by everyone, including the fans) The lyrics get weaker and weaker. Tunes like "Beautiful Disaster" and "Flowing" were like being transported into some kind of dream-like world. Now Nick doesn't even bother with the metaphors or symbolism. "You're my constant com-pan-ion"? Come on Nick, you would have kicked your own ass 15 years ago if you heard these lyrics. Its good to see the music is a still great though. I'd like to see 311 move back towards the Nick/SA singing and rapping formula, as opposed to the Nick singing with a faux jamacian accent formula. I'm a huge fan, and mean no disrespect with this post.

I have to agree with some of the posters here. 311 is the best band out there today! They put on the best live show and their albums are pieces of true art. This new album has everything! This album is positive and the vibes are well uplifting! Thanks for making the fans of 311 truly happy! God bless1

If you have any music knowledge you would understand that this is the best album of any 311 music I have ever heard. You can't sit there and tell me that Nick just sings on this album. Listen to the whole album and there are plenty of incredibly written lyrics. They do a great job, which they haven't used in the past, of switching up the speed in the lyrics on different parts of the songs to completly give you an entirly new feel. Plus, you take Chad's insane drum and bass drum beats, along with Peanut (they used him so well on this album, he really got to shine) you realize this is the most well put together album I have ever heard. Since Nick lives in Hawaii (and has for a while) you can really get a beach feel on some of the songs. Get Down, Golden Sunshine, It's Alright, Daisy Cutter, Something out of Nothing (plus the rest) have so much incredible music in them it is actually logically impossible. Not to mention the 311 message of Unity. Have you forgotten that this is what they were founded on and they keep the music true. Just a great album lyrically, musically.

Although I'm not entirely happy with the direction they've gone the past few albums, I still love the band and will always support them. They really do put on a fantastic live show (and, for a change, it's not all sweaty dudes in the pit... usually lots of cute girls) plus tons of weed. Nick's lyrics have never been exactly poetry, but the music's always been good. Even if you don't like 311, you have to respect their longevity when compared with the likes of all the bands that blew up at the same time in the mid-90's. 311 rocks, and will continue to rock until they're physically unable to. Here's to another 20 years.

I can't hate 311 and the new album is growing on me, but its definitely not them. And don't make excuses for what it is and what its not. They are older but they aren't old. You don't just forget how to make good music when you hit 35. They obviously wanted to go a different direction which is cool, just don't say its gonna be like the old albums when its even further away from them than DTOM.

Ive been a fan of 311 for years now, and I have to say although I dont think this is their best stuff, it is still a decent album. This album displays awesome musicianship from each individual band member. However, the song structures of each get too repetitive for my taste. Each song seems to have a catchy melody but then goes into a simple chorus using basic power chords. Even though the music has an original flavor to it, I still think 311 could grow 10 fold with their song structures. All in all though I am please, especially considering what the last album was like.

Ive followed 311 since the early days since I was a little kid. 311's albums are the soundtrack to my life both the good and the bad times. They are the most talented band of our time. Unfortunately they have somehow destroyed the drive and life force that was once called 311. I guess they relized that having die hard fans wasnt enough for them to buy there fancy houses and cars. Instead they decided to appeal to the 13 year old teenybopper MTV girl that would buy this garbage "uplifter" album. It kills me deep in side to say that they have officially sold out! This is the last album I buy. I will continue being a fan of 311. Not Uplifter 311 or future 311. I hope they have a sincere apology for the die hard fans that have thrown up on this album or tossed it from the car window.

I'm sorry, but any band that stays the same and doesn't change and mature sucks. 311 changes and matures, which makes their music worth coming back to. You don't get the same thing over and over.

The band really needs to reinvent themselves. They are so played out. Same ol same ol for the last three albums, take the best songs out of them and you would have enough to fill one album. Have always thought they should put out an funky instrumental album that would excite me. On another note it is fun counting how many times Nick and SA say yeaaaahh or unhhh- makes for a good drinking game.

Guys and gals, come on. It's one thing to say that you do not like an album, or a song, or the new direction of the band. But to say that they sold out, or are only doing it for 13 year old girls? Come on. You, or I do not know Nick Hexum and probably never will. So, because of that, you will never know his motives or what makes him tick. They're in their mid 30's, but alot of their fans are in their early 20's. When I was in my early 20's, i loved band, and as they changed, I grew older. Now I'm the same age as P-Nut, and you know what? I've changed some of my views, attitudes and world view. Just like the band. So don't blame the change in sound on silly assumptions. Wait until you're 35. You may still like alot of the bands that you do now, but i guarantee you, something in you will grow, change and evolve. So, you are all welcome to your opinions on the music, just don't rant and hate based on nothing.

Now, I like the new album...it's growing on me. I agree with the weak lyrics critique...they have always had that issue here and there. But some of the lyrics really work for me here. I liked Evolver alot, and I thought DTOM was ok. I have no problem with pop music, and have no problem with 311 incorporating it.

"The Day we turn to Pop the show will stop..." Well, they said that in 1993...16 years ago! 16!!!!! You think that people have the right to change their mind. Besides, I always took that to mean they'll never write radio freindly songs for the sake of just getting on the radio. And really, after the Blue album, they moved back into the underground, where all the 311 fans live and still live.

So, like it or not, 311 changed. For good or for ill, one thing is ALWAYS certain. There will be change. Deal with that, and you'll always be fine. Fight and spit and claw against it and it will crush you. "Flowing" isn't just a song title, it's the only way to survive.

i was a fan of 311 in 2000. and would quietly enjoy a remix of amber sometime around 2am. this is why mashup matters.

I think this cd is a great addition to 311's vast musical playlist. This cd, although lacking strong lyrics, has some great NEW sounds, and its really energetic. I think its great, no matter how it compares to past albums.
