Pepper’s Jukebox is another of Numero Group’s found objects. Based around photographer Michael Abramson’s crowd shots during blues shows in the ‘70s on Chicago’s South Side, the album is a 17-track set of funk and blues recordings from the time period. Pepper’s Jukebox (a reference to the club, Pepper’s Hideout) is packaged alongside Light: On the South Side, a 132-page hard back book featuring Abramson’s photos, an ephemera section, and an essay by Nick Hornby. Pepper’s Jukebox is a nostalgic aural peephole back to those gritty South Side nightclubs, where the blues were red hot alongside the funk and the sweat.
