Pussy Riot Found Guilty Of Hooliganism

UPDATE: Pussy Riot have been sentenced to two years in prison, according to the Guardian. The three women laughed at their sentence.

Despite the best efforts of Peaches, Paul McCartney, and thousands of other considerably awesome allies, Russian punk band Pussy Riot have been convicted of hooliganism by a Moscow court. The feminist musicians are charged with religious hatred after singing what they’ve called a “punk prayer” in a cathedral in protest of the Russian Orthodox Church’s support of President Vladimir Putin.

While Pussy Riot have not yet been sentenced, prosecutors are fighting for a three-year jail sentence, saying that the band’s protest only blasphemed the church and had nothing to do with politics. Let’s hope that the judge is a little more lenient and lets these awesome ladies back into the world soon to keep fighting the good fight. [BBC]
