Today it was announced that Prince will be returning to Warner Bros Records 18 years after his bitter divorce from the label that inspired The Artist’s name change. Under W.B., Prince recorded the classics that made him a household name, from Dirty Mind all the way up to his iconic Purple Rain.
Full details of the deal were not disclosed, but as part of the Purple One’s triumphant return, a 30th anniversary digitally remastered deluxe edition of Purple Rain will be released later this year.
But that won’t be all his devout fans have to look forward to in 2014. Today Prince had another big announcement:
“A brand-new studio album is on the way and both Warner Bros. Records and Eye [sic] are quite pleased with the results of the negotiations and look forward to a fruitful working relationship,”
This doesn’t come as a complete surprise to those who’ve consistently followed Prince, for this passed year he’s been playing new material with his band 3RDEYEGIRL at sold-out shows and “New Girl” episodes, but there’s no denying these are exciting times to Prince fans.
