/seethes at Chris.
The lighting looked disappointing.

Nahh it wasnt. I just came from the show of the second night. it was pretty good.

Actually, the lighting for the entire show was great. Of course, it sucked for the first three songs, exactly when all of the photographers can shoot. Whoopie!

I'll tell you what's disappointing...their last record. It's hard not to peg them sell-outs when they change their sound like that for their first record under a major label.

superficially, one of my favorite things about rilo kiley is how jenny lewis' dresses get shorter in direct proportion to their popularity. here's hoping rilo becomes the biggest band in the world someday. :]

Chan Marshall or Jenny Lewis? Jenny has a naughty vibe to her but I'd go with catty Chan.

Just out of curiosity, what was wrong with the lighting? I know the LD at T5 and he got very specific instructions from the band as to what they wanted...

I would love to meet the LD at T5. Hook it up!

There was nothing wrong with the lighting from a performance perspective. It's just that photographers are only given the first three songs to shoot from the pit. The lighting, from a photography perspective ,was awful for the first three.

Next time you're there for a show let Dave and me know...As far as the lighting goes, it's really on the band because they set the shooting policy (1st three songs only or whatever) and they also direct the LD. I guess maybe they don't think how their set and the order of the songs might affect the photos taken. Who knows. That being said, the photos look amazing, dude! To my untrained eye, anyway.

@dukkookim: "Under the Blacklight" is not, in fact, their first album on a major label. "More Adventurous" was.

Thanks lili mumu! I'll do that. The photo policy for the pit at Terminal 5 is ALWAYS first three no flash even if the band has an open photo policy. I think it's just easier for security that way.

I didn't have a photo pass, but I got some good shots on the first night anyway. They were SO strict with cameras the second night. I wanted to get a couple shots of Thao, so I did, and after her set, security came and got me, escorted me away from the front and up the stairs, then decided he'd let me go and took me back to my spot. I decided not to chance it with the camera after that.

June 5, 2008 at 4:57 p.m.

Whoa, that is strict. What kind of camera was it?

June 5, 2008 at 4:59 p.m.

Digital Rebel XTi with an 85mm f1.8 and a battery grip. Oops.

Isn't it the worst when you have your camera with you and can't take the shots!? Rilo Kiley is playing here in Baltimore this weekend - but I can't get there.... :-( These pictures are great, though! I would love to photograph her.

June 6, 2008 at 9:10 a.m.

Hmm, I think the 85mm might have pushed you over the top Des. 50mm 1.8 next time?

June 10, 2008 at 12:17 a.m.

Possible. You know what's worse? I got an e-mail from one of Thao's people yesterday. Seems she thought she'd e-mailed me approving a photo pass but hadn't.

Wow, Jenny Lewis is one hairy lady!

June 11, 2008 at 12:23 p.m.

At first I thought whoa, she's pretty hairy but it's actually the back of her hair against the lights in the photos.
