The former member of The Moldy Peaches, Adam Green, who became a visual artist, who also dabbled in filmmaking, has teamed up with Binki Shapiro of Little Joy for his latest musical venture. Green and Shapiro came to Portland via San Francisco on the Monday after the Super Bowl, to introduce songs from their debut album and to revisit Green's solo efforts. Backed by an excellent band, what I thought would be an intimate acoustic affair, turned out to be a vivacious anti-folk performance intermingled with gentle melodies of hazy sixties pop. Photos and videos didn't do justice to the beauty of waifish Shapiro, and her angelic voice was even more otherworldly. The less elegant Green moved around the stage in his eye-catching sienna-orange leather pants, with slight awkwardness and hesitation, singing in his rich baritone, perfectly complimented his female musical partner. The set lasted less than an hour, and while all of us at Doug Fir could have enjoyed more, I left satiated.
