Yup, a cartwheel. This was such a gorgeous night. The weather was spectacular, the setting was beautiful, the music was really powerful (88 drumkits!!), I'm so glad I went!
The LA version was magnificent, too. It was everything I love about drum circles (transcendent thudding/primal rhythms/communal engagement) without everything I hate about drum circles (terrible drummers/smelly people/no direction). They definitely went over 88 minutes and I coulda lasted for another hour. It didn't even take that long to get out of the parking lot. Imagine!
You hit the nail on the head, narfish. In NYC it was so well run and organized, and such a pleasant place to be (short beer lines!). I'd go again without hesitation if they do 99 on 9/9/09 next year!
I wish I went to this. Thanks for the crowd shots too Gabi!
Is the girl in the fourth row doing a cartwheel or some sort of handspring variation?
