Creative takes a hit as Zune reaches two million in sales
America loves an underdog story, and what could be better than the plucky Microsoft Corporation making a dent in the media player sales of industry behemoth Apple? The role reversal here is still disorienting, but Microsoft is gaining a little ground against its omnipresent rival. The company’s Zune player sold its two millionth unit only a year after reaching the million mark. Though Apple’s market share dipped slightly from seventy-two to seventy-one percent, the real loser in the situation is Creative, makers of the Zen media player, which lost half its market share between the first quarter of 2007 and the first quarter of 2008. Though Apple will remain the big kid on the block for the foreseeable future, Microsoft now comprises a respectable four percent of the total media player market. [Gizmodo]
