YouTube introduces music downloads

YouTube is about to become not just a giant black hole for your time but your money as well. Soon, viewers will be able to purchase the music in the videos they watch directly from the YouTube site, though the music will actually be coming from iTunes or Amazon's exiting services. YouTube is likely being compensated well for their efforts but the integration also aims to keep people on the site for longer stretches of time rather than clicking away to shop. Right now, only artists signed to Universal and EMI will be included but that covers a pretty huge percentage of the industry—the instant that YouTube is able to prove that this works, the rest are sure to follow. [NME]
