Young Marble Giants' 1980 album Colossal Youth remains one of the definitive documents of the post-punk era - a spooky, strange and bizarrely stark album of arty pop music, almost entirely devoid of percussion, that sounds unlike anything that was released before or since. Somehow, despite their influence, a 2003 reissue of Colossal Youth and covers by everyone from Hole to Belle and Sebastian, Young Marble Giants are still relatively unknown to those who didn't live through the band's brief existence. Domino Records is out to change all that - on September 11th, they'll release Colossal Youth and Collected Works, a 3-CD set of the entire Young Marble Giants discography including the entirety of Colossal Youth, a CD full of live tracks, singles and unreleased material, and a third CD with Young Marble Giants' sessions with John Peel. To coincide with the release of Colossal Youth and Collected Works, Young Marble Giants will reunite for the first time in 27 years for a worldwide exclusive performance on Sunday, May 27th at The Hay Festival in Hay on Wye in the UK. Book your tickets soon, Yankees - chances like this don't come 'round too often!
