Yoko Ono Opposes Parole For John Lennon's Killer Once Again

Almost 30 years since John Lennon was gunned-down outside his Dakota apartment building on Manhattan's Upper West Side, Yoko Ono will once again protest the possible release of his killer, Mark David Chapman, who comes up for parole next month. This will be Chapman's sixth bid for parole after becoming eligible in 2000.

Ono has sent a letter of protest to the parole board before each review, stating in one letter, "I am afraid it will bring back the nightmare, the chaos and confusion once again. Myself and John's two sons would not feel safe for the rest of our lives." Ono also said she doesn't believe Chapman would be safe if allowed back on the streets, either.

Chapman, now 55, is serving a 20-years-to-life sentence for the murder of Lennon.

His parole hearing in front of a three-member parol board panel is scheduled for Aug. 9. Other than a few prison violations early on, Chapman has maintained a clean record since 1994. [Yahoo!]
