In addition to winning an award of Lifetime Achievement at the Mojo Magazine Awards, well-known avant-garde musician Yoko Ono is preparing to release Between My Head and the Sky, a new full-length on Chimera Records. Ono is of course the rather controversial widow of the late John Lennon, though few people realize the creative extent of her experimental solo-work. Recording at the ripe old age of 76, Ono reportedly unleashed a torrent of new songs, writing approximately 16 songs in six days as the material for her new release. The album was in fact recorded at the same location as Double Fantasy, in NYC's Sear Sound (once known as the Hit Factory). Yoko has continued to keep the Lennon legend alive by working with her son Sean Lennon as lead producer. The two have also employed a diverse group made up of Japanese avant-pop performers and Manhattan-based improvisors. Between My Head and the Sky is set to come out on September 22.
