Did you wonder how that string quartet performance featuring Yo-Yo Ma and Itzhak Perlman could sound so great on Tuesday, despite the cold and the fact that there was one mic in front of them? Well apparently the performance was pretaped, and Perlman, Ma, and the other performers just "finger-synced" because it was too cold, meaning the possibility of flawed tuning, broken strings, and microphone mishaps.
That's totally understandable, considering a flawed musical performance would be incredibly embarrassing for everyone involved, and at least the people involved in the Inauguration are coming forward now. But it seems kind of dodgy that they wouldn't have told the networks ahead of time (as is stated in the NY Times story). [NY Times via Idolator]
