Yo La Tengo playing pool party, releasing soundtrack collection

Sonic Youth is closing down McCarren Park Pool with the final paying show at the makeshift Brooklyn venue on August 30. The free Sunday shows at the pool, which reached unprecedented levels of popularity with the MGMT concert in July, come to a close on August 24 with an appearance from Hoboken indie rockers Yo La Tengo. Supporting Ira, James, and Georgia will be Londoner Ebony Bones and New Jersey noiseniks Titus Andronicus.

In other Yo La Tengo news, the band is following up its 2006 album I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass with a compilation of its film music. Tracks recorded for Junebug, Shortbus, Old Joy, and Game 6 will be included, and rare poster art from each movie will feature on the sleeve. The record, amusingly titled They Shoot, We Score, will be available on September 5. [Tiny Mix Tapes]

Seeing YLT for free is pretty awesome and Titus Andronicus put on an energetic show.

I would love to be so there. But I won't. I live too far away.
