Yasiin Bey, formerly known as Mos Def, might be excited to record new Black Star music with Talib Kweli, but that hasn't stopped the Bed-Stuy native from working on other parts of his résumé. According to Variety, he's specifically building his acting portfolio by taking on a lead role in the upcoming prequel to Jackie Brown called Switch. He's apparently been cast as Ordell Robbie, who was played by Samuel Jackson in the original.
Bey's co-star is John Hawkes, known for his roles in American Gangster and Eastbound and Down, among other works. He'll be playing Louis Gara, who you recall was portrayed by Robert De Niro in Jackie Brown. The only downside to all this is that Quentin Tarantino isn't associated with the project. Wah. [HHDX]
