XXL Offers Free Mixtape Of Picks For Freshman 10
For some reason, I'm not even that mad with XXL's picks for its Freshman 10 list this year. Maybe it's the fact that last year's list was so flawed, particularly the fact they passed over Drake, who then apparently turned the magazine away this year. Anyway, there is the problem that a few of these guys shouldn't qualify as freshman. Some of them either have dropped proper debuts, such as Fashawn, or been on the scene for years, such as Nipsey Hussle and Wiz Khalifa. But to be fair, the mainstream audience might not be aware of some of these names and any chance to get guys like Fashawn, Pill, and Freddie Gibbs more recognition is fine with me.

With the exceptions of J. Cole, Fashawn, Freddie Gibbs and maybe Nipsey, XXL should call this the top 10 Freshman Clowns. If you can't write more intelligent, clever and interesting lyrics than my five year old cousin you should have no business rapping.
