Wyclef Jean Reportedly Not On Haiti Presidential Candidate List

Wyclef Jean’s ludicrous attempt to become president of Haiti appears to be in tatters today. Reports have surfaced that the Fugees singer isn’t on the shortlist of candidates for the election, which is set to be staged on Nov. 28. "He is not on the list as I speak,” said an unnamed member of the provisional electoral council in an interview with Reuters.

Apparently Jean failed several legal requirements, although he has claimed that several pertinent issues that may stall his run for president—like living in the country for five consecutive years—would not be a problem for him to pass. The full list of candidates is set to be revealed some time later today (Aug. 20). 

The tumultuous campaign conducted by Jean has run into much trouble and criticism. He was recently alleged to be in hiding in Haiti after receiving death threats relating to his bid, although many other reports have claimed that the youth of the country are largely supportive of Jean's campaign. This latest news suggests his foolhardy attempt may fall at the first hurdle, although there's still a glimmer of hope until official word is passed down.
