The break-up of the iconic '90s hip-hop group Fugees has been widely discussed, and various reasons for their split have been thrown about--ranging from in-group affairs to musical differences-- but founding member Wyclef Jean shares another explanation in his new autobiography, Purpose.
The Haitan native blames Lauryn Hill for the break-up. He says Hill, whom he admitted to having an affair with while he was married, lied about a paternity test about her child. According to Jean, Hill told him the baby was his, when the father was in fact Bob Marley's son, Rohan.
"In that moment something died between us. I was married and Lauryn and I were having an affair, but she led me to believe that the baby was mine, and I couldn’t forgive that," he wrote in the autobiography.
Jean went on to insinuate that Lauryn's lies led to Fugees' split in 1997.
"She could no longer be my muse," he added. "Our love spell was broken."
