MP3: Wu-Tang Clan "Take It Back"

A new Wu-Tang track entitled "Take it Back" has leaked. The song, enough to excite even the most cynical Wu fans, is taken from the forthcoming 8 Diagrams album (now slated for a December 11th release) and does, indeed, take it back. The beat is built around a delightfully 12-bit break from "Nautilus" by Bob James, with two other hip-hop standbys: the oft-heard "Ready on the right, ready on the left" sample, and a short guitar stab played out on a keyboard. With its feet planted firmly in '96, the track begins with Raekwon doing his best latter-day MF Doom impression; between this track and the previously leaked "The Heart Gently Weeps," it would seem Raekwon, like MF Doom, is doing the "I'm older so I talk quietly now" thing.
After Rae's verse the song continues with a deftly executed verse from Inspectah Deck, who arguably sounds the hungriest of any rapper on the track. Next Deck and Method Man share chorus duties, followed by an unsurprisingly dope Ghostface verse. Finally the track closes with capable darts from U-God and repeat of the chorus. Between the tight, legitimately Wu-sounding verses and the blissfully sampled-out beat, one hopes the rest of The 8 Diagrams is on par with "Take It Back".
