WOXY Suspends Broadcast, Searches For Funding

· by

Trailblazing internet radio station WOXY, which started back in 1983 as a terrestrial-based radio station, and then moved to internet-only in 2004, has suspended broadcast today due to a lack of funding. The station, which broadcast through SXSW this past weekend in good faith, say that their deal for funding fell through and that they're currently exploring other funding options to resume their schedule.

WOXY was purchased from Lala.com by Future Sounds, Inc. and moved from its long-time home in Cincinnati, Ohio to Austin, Tex. last year, in efforts to become financially stable. If you know of anyone interested in purchasing or investing in the station and its future, information is available at the WOXY website.

Peep the ten minute 2009 Zachary Herche documentary above, which details the station's history, including its history as a proginator behind the alternative radio scene, its place in Rain Man, and other historical tidbits. [USA Today]

super bummed out by this news, and not just because i was supposed to start deejaying there. the woxy guys are incredibly nice people and it especially blows that future sounds moved them from ohio to austin only to leave em high and dry six months later.
