There are some versions of the Star-Spangled Banner that are moving enough to make you a born-again patriot (think Whitney Houston at Super Bowl XXV) and some versions that also defy tradition and are updated with an artist's unique perspective (Marvin Gaye at the 1983 NBA All-Star Game, Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock). But for every stirring or innovative take on the National Anthem that makes you swell up with pride, there are dozens that are the complete opposite. This list from TIME's website compiles ten of the worst renditions, which includes Michael Bolton reading the lyrics off his hand, Kat DeLuna's fiasco at a Dallas Cowboys game last year and R. Kelly before a boxing match, where he actually takes time to encourage people to clap their hands during the song and in between lyrics. The rest of the list is filled out with celebrities and regular folks who shouldn't quit their day job. Be prepared to laugh, cringe or both. [TIME]
