World's Worst Song Created Scientifically

With all the time wasted creating software that purportedly scientifically calculates which songs are most likely to be hits, resources are being routinely diverted from figuring out which songs will suck. Seeing a need where no one else has (and where none really existed), composer Dave Soldier and artists Komar and Melamid asked some 500 visitors to their website to offer insight into the music they’d least want to hear. From there, the three wrote a song that they say “Fewer than 200 individuals of the world’s total population will enjoy.”

Which seems slightly aspirational because it’s actually not so bad. You can tell what ranked highly on the list of things hated in music: horses cloppity-cloppying; tubas; bagpipes; off key operatic vocals “rapping”; and, unexpectedly, children singing (harsh, right?). But instead of mashing it all together and creating one bombastic, 22-minute-long sound pie, the song veers from genre to genre, making it seem like a kind of novelty song, or something a children’s songwriter might put together for laughs. And while it’s definitely annoying, there are worse songs. On the charts. Really.

That's not so horrible. I don't think anyone's told these scientists about Paramore.

Pretty weird, but cool experiment.

I liked the terrible song. They also did a song that included everything people liked, and it was just boring.

My favorite part of this is that people don't like hearing children singing about holidays or commercialism. "Yom Kippur, Yom Kippur... do all your shopping at Wal-Mart!"

Is it wrong that I kind of liked it? It is very long and boring (as said above)...
