Woodstock 2009 Coming to New York, Nazi Airport in Germany

This upcoming August will mark the 40th anniversary of the legendary Woodstock Festival, which took place at a place called Yasgur's Farm in 1969. Displaying a pretty standard inability to let special, iconic things remain in the past, original Woodstock promoter Michael Lang has announced plans to put on two free Woodstock festivals this year in New York and Germany, on August 15 and 16, and August 22 and 23 respectively.

The event in New York doesn't have a location as of yet, but Lang's still got it planned for the actual anniversary of the festival. The event in Germany however, does have a location: Berlin's Tempelhof Airport, which has its own bloody, nazi-related history. One person said of the German venue to the Austrian Times, “This airport was one of the Nazis’ strongholds, there’s not much peace and love to be found there.” Clearly, the Germans haven't heard of "taking it back."

Lang hopes to get some of the acts that performed at the original woodstock, like The Who, Joan Baez, The Grateful Dead, Santana, and Joe Cocker.

Does Woodstock have a bloody nazi related past? What does the Austrian Times know about Germany, apparently as much as you do. Templehof was around before Hitler you know right.
